Follow the Water: Protecting Water Resources
September 7 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm $15
When we think of our watershed, we generally think of rivers and streams. Just as important to the whole watershed are the less visible springs, seeps, groundwater, and wetlands, which connect water from precipitation to the waterways. On this walking tour through Phoenix, we will look at human activities affecting stormwater runoff and water quality. We will discuss the importance of protecting smaller water features that contribute to the overall health of the watershed. We will also cover ways individual landowners can contribute to protecting water quality on their own sites, using “Low-Impact Development” methods. Expect to walk about one-half mile on mostly flat pavement.
Presenter: Frances Oyung has lived in the Rogue Valley since 1992, where she has worked in various capacities for public agencies, utilities, and non-profit organizations, in the fields of water resources and restoration. Frances has a BA in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz and currently serves as Program Director of Rogue Riverkeeper.
